Nucleosynthesis

Please keep in mind this site is WIP! When relevant, I will put notes about how complete a given page is.

Welcome to my website about how precisely the elements of our universe came to be. I intend to make this website as comprehensive as one can without having a formal background in physics, while remaining as accessible as possible.

Crash course on nuclear physics necessary for understanding this website is planned in the future but currently out of the scope!

The contents of this website require roughly high school knowledge of nuclear physics; knowing what these things mean:

  • Nucleon, proton, neutron, electron, positron
  • Isotope, nuclide, Lithium-7
  • β- decay, β+ decay, α decay, gamma ray

Basics

Big bang created most of the Hydrogen and Helium that we see in the universe today. Majority of other elements are created during life-time of different stars and violent space events - supernovae and neutron star mergers (kilonovae).
